Mountains and adventure have always been part of my life. As a youngster I was inspired by climbing and mountaineering instructors. Seventeen years in the Army, some of it as a Commando Engineer, provided me the opportunity to develop my passion and skills. Now I am a Winter Mountaineering and Climbing Instructor, offering summer and winter mountaineering and climbing coaching, instruction and guiding. The outdoors offers many things; thrills, skills, experience, independence, confidence etc. It also offers thinking and relaxing space. Hill Walking – Scotland offers some of the most diverse and stunning walking …….. well, anywhere. From the dramatic and at times pretty remote North West, to the ever popular Munros of Lochaber and the Cairngorms, there is lots to see and do. Rock Climbing – Scotland is home to some of the oldest rocks in the world. We have granites and other volcanic rocks and a huge variety of metamorphosed sedimentary rocks as well as ancient sandstone – from when Scotland was somewhere warmer! Look at any climbing guidebook and you will see a fabulous array of climbing opportunities. Learn to climb, progress to leading or enjoy the journey! Click here for prices.
Summer Mountaineering – Somewhere between hill walking and rock climbing is scrambling, the world where rope skills and protecting oneself is essential. Perhaps the rope stays warm and dry in a sack, conditions though on a committing route such as the Aonach Eagach Ridge in Glencoe can change quickly and having the confidence to set up a basic belay and safeguard oneself and others is an essential skill. Join me to learn essential skills and develop your confidence and independence. Click here for prices.
Winter Skills – The mountains seem to become even more attractive to many when covered in snow, but without preparation, skills, knowledge and the right equipment epics are not far round the corner. I had plenty as an unskilled youngster! Winter training can provide the skills and confidence to take the next safe step. Click here for prices.
Winter Mountaineering – Many low grade summer scrambles become fabulous winter mountaineering routes where we need to use additional winter mountaineering skills such as advanced route planning and finding, avalanche hazard assessment and the use of a rope, helmet and harness. If you have winter hill walking experience, this is for you! Click here for prices.
Winter Climbing – Scotland offers some of the most exiting, varied and accessible winter climbing in the world. The sun may not always be shining, but when it is, that is the icing on the cake.
